How Tourism Ministry Blew RM1.8 million on Facebook

A friend, a female of course, told me about how bad Obedient Wives Club is by saying that even Ng Yen Yen criticizes that club. On a hindsight, instead of spending time giving unnecessary comments on OWC, a social club formed by free-thinking women using their own money, Yen Yen's time would be better spent explaining how the ministry under her control blew RM1.8 million of tax payers' money on Facebook.

Yup, you read that right. The Tourism Ministry blew almost RM1.8 million to create 6 Facebook pages i.e. Cuti-cuti 1 Malaysia, Citrawarna 1 Malaysia, Karnival Jualan Mega 1 Malaysia, Festival Pelancongan Seni Kontemporari 1 Malaysia, Kempen 1 Malaysia Bersih and Fabolous Food 1 Malaysia.

Of these, i found only two pages still in subsistence i.e. Cuti-cuti 1 Malaysia and Citrawarna 1 Malaysia. And Cuti-cuti only has 22080 fans while Citrawarna has 1479 at the time of writing. Of these two, only Citrawarna's wall is open. And newer wall posts are ridicules from the rakyat.

You must be wondering why our awesome ministry needs RM1.8 mil to create 6 pages and maintain 2. According to our super IT savvy deputy minister of tourism, James Dawos Mamit, the money is spent on designing, flash programming and coding, testing and debugging, uploading and launching application, system server deployment and campaign management.

Wow, these are surely big operations, the money is well spent.

Only that there is absolutely no difference on the two remaining facebook pages compared to any other facebook pages created free and without spending 1.8 mil on all those gobbledygooks.

And tell you what, Malaysian facebook sensation, Felixia Yeap has more fans than the two tourism pages combined (Felixia has 31773)!!

And Felixia has better pictures and updates much more frequently than those Tourism pages. At the very least, Felixia has this:

I am so sad. Yen Yen's ministry blew my RM1.8 mil on these free facebook pages.

I am starting to think that Felixia Yeap would do a better job promoting Malaysian tourism. At the very least, she has more fans than those Tourism pages. And definitely more wow factor. And better pictures.

And i believe you don't need to spend RM1.8 mil on Felixia for her to promote Malaysia. Maybe a friction of that only.
